It’s not always easy to decide upon something. The wider your opportunities become, the harder it is to pick one. Life is full of ups and downs and each path you’re walking on comes with tough times as well as its perks. However, two things I have learned I want to share with you:
- If you find yourself at a crossroads and have several ways you can go, consider yourself lucky. Not everybody gets the chance to decide.
- If you don’t make a decision for yourself, someone else will.
One beautiful feature about life is its constant flow: time passes by no matter what you do. A good thing though, is that this constant journey that pushes you forward is the very foundation of an essential human need: development. Last week I wrote about change, well, this article builds upon that and draws attention to one factor that’s always present when change happens: the ability to choose.
Whatever you decide, remember this: you are the first person that will suffer the consequences of your actions. So choose wisely, but be brave, straighten your back and take responsibility over your decision.
There is no good or bad, but rather a continuous movement onwards. It is also a learning by doing process, because no one can really tell you which way is the best for you to go. Yet I believe each and every one of us has a subtle sense, an inner voice that whispers which path fits perfectly for you at a given time. Listen to that voice and let it guide you. Decisions are sometimes hard, they may require sacrifice or compromises, but simultaneously they open new doors, bring along new ways.
Enjoy the road even if you don’t have all the answers yet. “Das Leben wird vorwärt gelebt und rückwärts verstanden” says a German quote, meaning: „Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards “.
